Sergio Mendes, Joshua Redman, Gregory Porter and The Bad Plus are among the first names announced for Cheltenham Jazz Festival 2019

Cheltenham Jazz Festival has named thge first performers for its 2019 edition (1-6 May). They will include soul singer Gregory Porter, Brazilian bossa nova star Sergio Mendes, saxophonist Joshua Redman, and The Bad Plus (with new member Orrin Evans on piano).

Two of the festival’s major venues are also changing. The Henry Weston’s Big Top capacity will increase by 50% to 2,000 seats, enabling more people to enjoy the most popular events and, it is said, offer better sightlines to the stage. The Free Stage will move to a new position within the Festival Village on Montpellier Gardens to allow space for audience members to relax.

Tickets go on sale to Cheltenham Festivals Members at 1pm on 27 November and to the general public at 1pm on 29 November. The full Cheltenham Jazz Festival line-up will be announced on 13th February. Gregory Porter has also been announced as artistic "curator" of the festival for three years. For ticket sales and further announcements go to the Cheltenham Jazz Festival website.
